CNA Program Attendance & Make-Up Policy (DHS 129 Compliance)

The Nursing Assistant program is regulated by the Wisconsin Division of Quality Assurance, DHS 129, which requires a minimum of 75 hours of instruction:

  • 59 hours classroom

  • 16 hours lab

  • 16 hours clinical

Classroom & Lab Requirements

  • All classroom and lab hours must be completed.

  • Tardiness is rounded up to the nearest quarter hour.

  • Up to 8 hours of absence/tardiness may be permitted with official medical or emergency documentation.

  • Make-up work (homework assignments or alternative lab activities) must be approved and documented by the instructor.

Failure to complete assigned make-up work, or failure to schedule make-up time as directed, will result in dismissal from the program and loss of tuition.

Clinical Requirements

  • All 16 clinical hours are mandatory.

  • No absences or tardies are permitted.

  • Any missed clinical time, including arriving late by even 1 minute, results in automatic course failure.

  • A temporary grade of “Incomplete” may be granted only with documented medical or emergency circumstances and instructor approval.

  • Make-Up Fees

  • Make-up classroom or lab hours are billed at $60 per hour, payable in advance.

  • A maximum of one classroom day may be made up in this manner.

  • Clinical hours cannot be made up—any missed time leads to program failure.

  • Payment must be made by cash, credit/debit, or money order (no personal checks accepted).

Student Responsibility

  • Students must notify the instructor of any absence or tardy at least 2 hours before the start of class.

  • Failure to call in is considered a “No Call / No Show”, which may result in dismissal from the program.

  • Students must be medically cleared before re-entry after an extended absence.
