Certified Nursing Assistant Course

Course Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at Health Heroes Academy prepares students to deliver safe, compassionate, and effective care in a variety of healthcare settings. Our course includes 59 hours of classroom and lab instruction plus 16 hours of hands-on clinical training, giving you the skills and confidence to provide safe, compassionate care.

What You’ll Learn

  • Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, grooming, feeding, and mobility.

  • Measuring and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.

  • Infection prevention, safety procedures, and emergency response.

  • Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

  • Professionalism, ethics, and patient rights in healthcare.

Program Format

  • Duration: Complete training in as little as 2 weeks (depending on schedule).

  • Instruction: Blend of classroom learning, skills labs, and supervised clinical practice.

  • Certification Prep: Aligned with Wisconsin Department of Health Services requirements to prepare students for the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Competency Exam.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of the CNA program are qualified to work in nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and home health agencies across Wisconsin. CNA certification also provides a strong foundation for students who wish to pursue nursing or other healthcare careers in the future.

CNA Course Admission Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you will need a parent or legal guardian fill consent form to enroll.

  • You must be able to read, write, and understand English at a 9th-grade level or higher.

  • A valid Driver’s License or State ID is required.

  • A Social Security Card must be presented.

  • Proof of being free from tuberculosis is required. You may provide:

    • Two (2) negative TB skin tests, or

    • A TB blood test, or

    • A chest x-ray.
      Tests must be done within 90 days of your last clinical day. Results are due to the office staff no later than the first day of class.

  • Proof of a flu shot is required for classes held between October 1st and April 15th. Documentation must be turned in by the first day of class.

  • You must be physically able to perform all required skills and tasks.

  • If you are pregnant, a doctor’s note is required stating you have no restrictions (including lifting) that would prevent you from participating in class or clinicals. This note must be on file before the first day of class.

  • You must remain drug and alcohol free during class and clinicals.

  • You cannot have criminal convictions in the past 5 years, or any convictions that prevent you from being placed on the nurse aide registry. Older convictions will be reviewed by clinical sites, and you must receive their approval before enrollment.

  • You are responsible for your own transportation to class and clinical locations.

  • If you require ADA accommodations, you must complete and print the request form and submit it with the required documentation by the first day of class.

  • Attendance is mandatory. You must attend 100% of all class and clinical sessions, arrive on time, and stay for the full scheduled time.
