Community-Based Residential Facility Course
Course Overview
The CBRF program at Health Heroes Academy equips students with the skills and certifications required to work in assisted living facilities and community-based care settings across Wisconsin. This training ensures caregivers can provide safe, effective, and compassionate support to residents. Our live, instructor-led Zoom classes cover all four state-required courses, using curriculum developed by the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay (UW-GB) and approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS):
What You’ll Learn
Our CBRF training covers all four state-required modules:
Medication Administration: Safe handling, documentation, and delivery of medications (14 hours, 2 Part Training)
Standard Precautions: Infection control and safety procedures to protect both residents and staff. (2 Hours)
First Aid & Choking: Emergency response training to handle choking, injuries, and urgent medical needs. (4 Hours)
Fire Safety: Prevention and emergency preparedness for fire-related incidents in residential care. (3 Hours)
Program Format
Duration: Typically completed in 3–5 days, depending on schedule.
Format: Online, live, instructor-led sessions via Zoom
Requirements:
Internet-connected device
Functioning camera (must remain on)
Microphone for active participation
Engagement: Mandatory attendance for all scheduled hours
Professional Standards: Students must follow conduct expectations, including punctuality, attentiveness, and maintaining a professional learning environment
Training Style: Interactive classroom sessions, hands-on labs, and practical demonstrations.
Certification: Students earn a Wisconsin DHS-approved CBRF certification upon completion.
Career Outcomes
Graduates are qualified to work in assisted living facilities, group homes, and community-based residential care facilities throughout Wisconsin. CBRF certification also enhances career opportunities for those pursuing long-term care or home health roles. This course is required to meet the state regulated requirements of DHS 83. After successfully completing this course, students will be certified in First Aid & Choking, and be listed on the Wisconsin Community- Based Care & Treatment Registry.
CBRF Admission Requirements:
You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you will need written permission from a parent or legal guardian to enroll.
You must be able to read, write, and understand English at a 9th-grade level or higher.
A valid Driver’s License or State ID is required.
If you require ADA accommodations, you must complete and print the request form and submit it with the required documentation by the first day of class.
A $20 registry fee is required to be listed on the Wisconsin Community-Based Care & Treatment Registery

Payment Plans & Financial Assistance
While we do not offer internal payment plans, students may be eligible for outside assistance:
Employer Sponsorship – Many healthcare employers will pay for staff certification.
Educational Institutions – Some schools offer tuition assistance for certifications.
Wisconsin DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation) – Individuals with disabilities may qualify for financial support. We are a recognized DVR provider.
